An overview about the mill

The Gurdaspur Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd., Gurdaspur

The Gurdaspur Cooperative Sugar Mill was initially established as Punjab Khand Udyog Limited, Gurdaspur, as per Punjab Government letter No. 21 dated 04.04.1977, and commenced its first sugarcane crushing season in 1980–81.

The mill began operations with an installed capacity of 1250 TCD (tons of cane per day). In response to the abundant availability of sugarcane in the area, the capacity was increased to 2000 TCD in 1987. Subsequently, the mill was registered under the Cooperative Department as a cooperative society (Registration No. 171 dated 30.10.1987), and in 1991–92, it was officially merged into the Cooperative Sector by the Government of Punjab. The mill was then renamed The Gurdaspur Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd., Gurdaspur.

An initial investment of ₹5.25 crore was made to establish the mill, which has since operated successfully, completing its 44th crushing season in 2023–24. For the 2023–24 season, the crushing target was 25 lakh quintals with a recovery rate of 8.88%.

Currently, the mill is undergoing a major expansion with the commissioning of a new sugar plant of 5000 TCD capacity along with a 28.5 MW Co-generation Plant, which is under progress. These developments are expected to significantly enhance the mill’s operational efficiency and financial sustainability.
