An overview about the mill

The Batala Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd., Batala was established in the year 1961–62 with an initial crushing capacity of 1000 TCD and commenced its crushing operations in 1963–64. The capacity was later enhanced to 1500 TCD in 1988–89. Subsequently, in line with a decision of the State Government, a new sugar plant with a capacity of 3500 TCD, expandable up to 5000 TCD, along with a 14 MW Co-generation Project, was commissioned at a total cost of ₹296.14 crores.

The mill commenced its 63rd crushing season on 06.12.2024, operating the newly commissioned plant and co-generation facility.

For the 2024–25 crushing season, the mill began operations on the new sugar plant with a capacity of 3500–5000 TCD, along with the 14 MW co-generation project, on 06.12.2024. The mill is currently producing sulphur-less refined sugar, and from the next season, it plans to initiate the production of pharmaceutical-grade sugar and electricity generation through the co-generation project. These developments are expected to significantly improve the mill’s liquidity position.
